In San Francisco, the centrally-located Music Center of San Francisco allows me to use their facility to teach. They are an awesome sheet music store located one half-block south of the San Francisco Union Square. They also rent practice rooms with pianos for $10. The Music Center is conveniently located near both the Powell Street BART & Muni station (in case you wish to come in quickly and conveniently on the subway) and also Starbucks Coffee (in case you wish to spend $9.12 on a latte that is exactly 104.26 degrees Farenheit). There are nearby parking structures but it is better to BART in. Terms: The same terms apply as all voice lessons with a 72 hour cancellation policy for singly bought sessions. With less notice, credit is lost. Once a lesson is paid, it must be taken or made up if cancelled with enough notice - no refunds, sorry. Already blew the dinero on Stuff I'd Rather Not Talk About. Directions
- BART or Muni underground:By far the easiest way to get to the San Francisco location is by BART of Muni train.
Board the BART or Muni train that runs underground along Market Street in the City. You may access BART from
East Bay as well. For info on BART locations, visit BART.gov (popup)
Once on BART heading toward Powell Street Station in downtown San Francisco, do this:
- Get out at Powell Street station
- go aboveground
- Look for the GAP at the corner of Powell & Market. This GAP is across Market Street from The Giant San Francisco Shopping Center. The cable car (trolley) that runs up and down Powell Street terminates before it hits Market St and turns around right in front of this GAP although the street (powell) at that point is closed to traffic until about 1 block north of this intersection. There is a Guy standing right there with a big yellow sign letting you know how much Jesus loves you and he is there often enough to safely use as a landmark. That's a lot of love. Don't call the cable car a trolley in front of the trolley driver, by the way. They get violent.
- Follow the trolley tracks, being sure to call them cable car tracks if asked, north (away from Market Street - toward Urban Outfitters, Blondie's Pizza, Burger King, and Rasputin Music. Get on the left side of the street. Don't let the trolley (or whatever) run you over - they know you were thinking of calling them trolley drivers)
- Go through two intersections. Try not to get run over by a crazed taxi driver.
- The second intersection is O'Farrell. As you cross this, you will see the First Starbuck On Your Left. Try NOT to buy a coffee there (go a half block further past the store for good local lattes).
- Music Center is the next door after Starbucks along Powell Street (see photo on this page up and to the left). Go to the second floor.
- Directions by car: What I do is kinda drive around the city looking for it at random. It's only 7 miles by 7 miles - how hard can it be? OK, I suck at car directions. If you want GOOD car directions, call 415-781-6023 and talk to Diana the Directions Goddess at the Music Center.
