General Information

  • All lessons must be pre-paid
  • We take cash and cards but not checks (pretty much all credit cards plus Paypal and Paypal credit with financing)
  • Online lessons are priced the same as cash.  In-person lessons packages of 6 or more sessions are subject to a 2.9% fee for credit card processing if paid by credit card.
  • If you wish to pay cash, I cannot meet you outside of a pre-paid lesson with cash.  Instead, book a single lesson with a credit card and bring cash with you (exact change in an envelope) to the session and we can get you credits in your online account on the scheduler – then you may book the sessions online.
  • I don’t do the scheduling part in your session to conserve teaching time, but if you need me to do that (totally cool!), let me know at the beginning of the session and we can do it then and end on time.
  • Please see studio policies in section below pricing diagram prior to booking
  • There is an additional fee if you end up doing the 16 December recital.  It covers the expenses of the instrumentalist(s), room rental, etc.  You’ll also wanna rehearse at least once with the instrumentalist(s) and you’ll have to pay their fee directly to them for the rehearsals with you.  Plus a room rental fee for the studio space.

In Person Studio Policies

OK these are boring so hang in there!!!! =D

Locations and How to Get to the Room
Manhattan lessons take place at 520 8th Ave inside Ripley Grier Studios. 520 8th is located 3 blocks north of Penn Station NYC and is between 36th and 37th. You should arrive maybe 10 minutes early to make sure you get to the right room as it’s the largest public studio space in the world! (Srsly!)

When you arrive, go to the 16th floor and ask at the front desk (to the right of the elevators) what room we will be in. Usually I try for 17K or 17L but sometimes large Broadway shows or auditions book out huge numbers of rooms or something else happens and I can’t get the normal room. That’s why arrive 10 minutes early – you’ll need to get the room number and directions from the front desk person. Room numbers (but not directions) are also displayed on TV monitors right in front of the elevators on 16 and also on floor 17 if you go left after exiting the elevators and go through the glass doors you will see a monitor. They just show my rooms as “Eleonor” so look for that!

Packages Available
Lessons are sold as single sessions, 6 lessons over 8 weeks, and 12 lessons over 14 weeks. Note: All lessons must be paid prior to booking. You may pay cash or check at your lesson for your next lesson or series, but bookings made by phone, email, or internet should be paid by credit or debit card. Email invoices are available.

Single sessions
Single sessions are the most flexible and you can cancel or reschedule them with 48 hours email notice. Just send me an email and we can get you taken care of. I must have a full 48 hours notice so I can cancel the room. With less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged $25 /hr for a makeup which is because I will still have to pay the room rental fee on your cancelled appointment. Giving over 48 hours notice for a reschedule or cancellation is free!  Cancellations with 48 hours notice can be refunded if they are single sessions.  Totally unused packages (before you take the first kesson) can also be refunded if 48 hours notice is given prior to the first session. If you cannot give 48 hours notice, please give as much notice as you can – if I can rebook the time then you won’t be charged a room rental fee for the cancellation/reschedule.

6 Lessons Over 8 Week Series
These aren’t as flexible but are cheaper! Yay, cheaper! The deal is you come in for 6 lesson over 8 weeks. You may space the sessions out as you like but please allow practice time between if you want the best results. Many visiting artists take 2 or more per week.  Any religious or civic holidays that your lesson falls on you may opt to skip that week and add a week onto the end of your series (or you can not skip if you wish, if Ellie is “open” that day). If you have a health emergency you may put your package on hold with at least 48 hours notice – the package will be on hold at least 3 weeks and recontinue when you are healthy and ready.  Once you have taken the first lesson in your series, there can be no refunds.  You can donate your package or gift it to someone, though.

If you’re sick
* There’s a $25/hour fee to makeup the session (to cover the room rental)
* Must be made up prior to the last day of your series (might be a Skype lesson if the schedule is tight – note Skype lessons SOMETIMES don’t incur a room fee!)

If Ellie is sick
* You can take a makeup – at no charge – anytime you are available and it does not have to be before the last day of your series
* You may opt for a pro-rated refund.

12 Lesson Over 14 Week Series
These aren’t as flexible but are the cheapest! Yay, cheapest! The deal is you come in for 12 lessons over 14 weeks. You must complete your 12th lesson within 14 weeks of your first session. Once you have taken the first lesson, there can be no refunds.  You can donate your package or gift it to someone, though.

You can plan to skip two weeks in this series (and add a lesson onto the end of your series) as long as you let Ellie know a week or more in advance.

If you’re sick
* There’s a $25/hr fee to makeup the session (to cover the room rental)
* Must be made up prior to the last day of your series (might be a Skype lesson if the schedule is tight – note Skype lessons SOMETIMES don’t incur a room fee!)

If Ellie is sick
* You can take a makeup – at no charge – anytime you are available and it does not have to be before the last day of your series
* You may opt for a pro-rated refund.

Please note online lessons are available through Skype and other apps and are cheaper and have more flexible terms – let Ellie know if you want to have those studio policies!
